Garland, Texas - February 21, 2008 -- City of Garland residents are encouraged to be on the alert for people impersonating City Water Department employees. The City has received complaints that such people are posing as City employees to gain access to residents’ homes, then using high-pressure sales techniques to sell water purification systems.
These imposters have been using what appears to be a City identification badge. Residents who are approached by anyone representing themselves as city employees should ask to see identification. All employees carry photo identification cards and will be driving a clearly marked city vehicle. If a resident needs to confirm someone is a Water Department employee, they should call the 24/7 service center at 972-205-3210.
“Unfortunately, these types of scams do happen,” says Water Utilities Director Jack May. “We encourage any resident or customer who is not sure about the identity of someone claiming to be a water department employee to call and check with us.”
