Garland Continues Disaster Preparedness Events
|
| |
The City of Garland’s Office of Emergency Management will continue its Disaster Preparedness Awareness activities into October.
North Central Texans are all too familiar with severe weather and other emergency situations can impact individuals and communities. Garland participated in several outreach and public education activities during National Preparedness Month in September. One of those events had to be postponed due to potential severe weather responses.
The City of Garland will host a preparedness information booth at Firewheel Town Center on Saturday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The booth will be located in the Park Plaza area of the Firewheel Town Center. Citizens who visit the booth may register to win a free Weather-Alert Radio donated by Radio Shack. Firewheel Town Center is located at State Highway 78 and the President George Bush Turnpike.
Recently, radio winners from an earlier outreach event were recognized. The Walmart at 1801 Market Place Drive in south Garland gave away 10 radios to citizens who visited Garland Emergency Preparedness Booth on September 20.
North Central Texans have access to a disaster preparedness program developed by local jurisdictions with information specific to our region. The Web site www.KnoWhat2Do.com is a complete resource—helping people identify the hazards that threaten our area, and detailing ways to be prepared. It also provides useful information about volunteering and donating to victims. Think. Prepare. Act.
