Neighborhoods are the basic building blocks of a great community. For that reason, the City of Garland is proclaiming October 20-25 to be “Neighborhoods Week”.
In his proclamation, Mayor Ronald E. Jones says “When any neighborhood suffers from decline, our City as a whole suffers. Thriving neighborhoods are important to our City’s vision for a vital community.”
Neighborhoods include residents, businesses, churches, schools, nonprofits and governmental entities. All who work, play and live in a neighborhood play an important role in creating a sense of community in that neighborhood.
Everyone can celebrate the great people and places in your neighborhood. Here are a few ideas:
Invite a neighbor over for coffee, tea, and conversation.
Submit a neighborhood story to the City of Garland’s Office of Neighborhood Vitality.
Introduce yourself to a new neighbor on the block.
Invite a friend to attend a Garland Neighborhood Management Academy Class
Attend the Mayor’s Evening Out on October 22.
Start a neighborhood association, Crime Watch group or block group.
Join the existing organizations in your neighborhood.
Plan a neighborhood beautification project.
Help a neighbor with a project.
Attend the Garland Neighborhood Summit on Saturday, October 25.
